McCreary County Toddler Suffers Life-Ending Injury In North ...

An unthinkable tragedy in North Carolina has hit close to home, as an eight-month-old is brain dead following an accident in the bathtub, and as his McCreary County family prepares to bury little Grant Torkleson, members of the community are rallying to help in any way they can.

Torkleson's McCreary County grandfather, Randy Stevens, will remember him as one of the happiest babies you ever met in your life. "Every time you saw the kid he was either smiling or laughing," said Stevens.

The toddler's life came to a screeching halt Friday. His mother, Ashley Torkleson, who now lives with her family on a military base in North Carolina, was giving her two kids a bath, when Grant fell and drowned. Doctors say he suffered an aneurysm that may have been triggered by pneumonia. When he fell the mother turned from whatever she was doing and he was laying face down. She grabbed him and she immediately started doing CPR and called 911.

Grant remained on life support for several days, until a final test Thursday showed Frant was brain dead and would not survive.

In the meantime, the McCreary County Christian Center has stepped into action. The center is accepting donations for the family to help pay for travel expenses and funeral costs.
