University of Victoria Vikes basketball drop first game of exhibition tour in California

University of Victoria: VICTORIA, B.C. (Dec. 29) - Exams are over and holiday time has come to an end for the University of Victoria Vikes men's and women's basketball teams, who are currently in La Mirada, Calif. to take on American competition throughout Dec. 28-30.

The Vikes women are competing in two games of the Biola University-hosted annual Holiday Hoops tournament featuring the Biola Eagles, the Vikes, as well as the No. 3 Vanguard University and Olivet Nazarene University. The tournament enters its fourth year, with Biola running an impressive 6-1 record over the last three appearances.

Last night, Dec. 28, the Vikes women were downed by the Eagles 63-43, with Jessica Renfrew (Victoria, BC) leading the Vikes with 15 points. Renfrew was the lone Vike to tally more than six points on the board.

Up next, the Vikes women will face the NAIA Division I and No. 3-ranked Vanguard University tonight, Dec. 29, at 5:30 p.m. The Lions defeated Olivet Nazarene 89-77 on Friday.

For the men, the Vikes are travelling in California for training, as well as two matches. On Dec. 29, at 3:30 p.m., the Vikse will play Biola University and on Dec. 30th, the Vikes will face Concordia University at 5 p.m.

The Vikes will then return for their first weekend of Canada West action on the road, Jan. 11-12, against Winnipeg and Manitoba.
